Quotes for the Day
Here are some quotes I like...
Every day, even for a moment, find your own sense of calm.
May this day bring you peace, tranquility and harmony.
Love what is ahead by loving what has come before.
When the mind is backed by will, miracles happen.
May you have faith in your worth and act with wisdom.
Have wisdom in your actions and faith in your merits.
True understanding is found through compassion.
Life is a chance. Love is infinity. Grace is reality.
To learn, read. To know, write. To master, teach.

Famous Valentine's Day quotes
I found these quotes in the Parade magazine that came with the newspaper today -
"Look to the great romantics for inspiration!
My blind eyes are desperately waiting for the sight of you. You don't realise of course, E.B., how fascinatingly beautiful you have always been, and how strangely you have acquired an added and special and dangerous loveliness.
—Richard Burton to wife Elizabeth Taylor, excerpted from Furious Love: Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, and the Marriage of the Century by Sam Kashner and Nancy Schoenberger.
I shall see you in three hours. Until then, mio dolce amor, a thousand kisses; but give me none in return, for they set my blood on fire.
—Napoleon Bonaparte to Josephine, two months before their wedding
I cannot better explain to you what I felt than by saying that your unknown heart seemed to pass into my bosom—there to dwell forever—while mine, I thought, was translated into your own. From that hour I loved you.
—Edgar Allan Poe to poet Sarah Whitman
You are more wonderful and lovely in my eyes than you ever were before; and my pride and joy and gratitude that you should love me with such a perfect love are beyond all expression, except in some great poem which I cannot write.
—Woodrow Wilson to wife Edith
[W]ith an indescribable pleasure, I have seen near a score of years roll over our heads with an affection heightened and improved by time, nor have the dreary years of absence in the smallest degree effaced from my mind the image of the dear untitled man to whom I gave my heart.
—Abigail Adams to husband John"

Today's Quote
Finish each day and be done with it...
You have done what you could;
Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in
Forget them as soon as you can
Tomorrow is a new day;
You shall begin it well and serenely.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Forget them as soon as you can

You shall begin it well and serenely.

New Year Quote
Here is a good quote for New Year's Eve from Ogden Nash -
“Tonight’s December thirty-first,
Something is about to burst.
The clock is crouching, dark and small,
Like a time bomb in the hall.
Hark, it's midnight, children dear.
Duck! Here comes another year!”

Thanksgiving Quote
Here's a good quote from actress Gwyneth Paltrow on what to be grateful for this Thanksgiving -
"Mostly, make sure that no matter what type of meal you are having, you take a moment to think about how much you do have (health, love, friendship, passion, perspective, appreciation, intellect, reason, kindness) and reflect on how you can share more of it with others."

Quote of the Day
Today's quote is from Desiderata: A Poem for a Way of Life by Max Ehrmann -
“Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let not this blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams; it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.”
Desiderata is Latin for "things desired as essential" and this poem was written in 1927. It is timeless and beautiful.

Quote of the Day
Here is a quote I like from John Greenleaf Whittier's poem "Maud Muller" -
God pity them both! and pity us all,
Who vainly the dreams of youth recall.
For of all sad words of tongue or pen,
The saddest are these: "It might have been!"
God pity them both! and pity us all,
Who vainly the dreams of youth recall.
For of all sad words of tongue or pen,
The saddest are these: "It might have been!"

Words of wisdom
In the book The Best Advice I Ever Got by Katie Couric, Lisa Ling's contribution called Give of Yourself includes an email her husband sent her with this story -
"On a street corner I saw a cold, shivering girl in a thin dress, with no hope of a decent meal. I got angry and said to God, 'Why did you permit this? Why don't you do something about it?' God replied, 'I certainly did something about it. I made you.'" I thought that was a good reminder to help others when you can.
Here is a great quote from Groucho Marx -
"Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I can have just one day today and I'm going to be happy in it."
When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot in it and hang on. - Franklin D. Roosevelt
