Belgian chocolate

Bruges is known for its chocolates and we went to a few stores to sample some.  The first shop we went to offered hot chocolate served in a unique way.  They brought us a cup of warm milk with the chocolate of our choice on a spoon.  We swirled the spoons into the milk until the chocolate melted - yummy!

We also went to the Chocolate Line since our hotel owner said it was the best in town.  The owner, Dominique Persoone, is well known and has a book called Cacao, the Chocolate Route.  You can see the chocolates being made in the store and the delicious scents are intoxicating!

Here I am outside the store  -

They have some very unique flavors of chocolate there such as black olive and no, we didn't try that one! I love the lavender chocolates.  They even have chocolate lipstick.  Check out their website -

I heard that Dominique worked on the movie Alice in Wonderland and they had some related chocolate items on display in the window.  The store was crowded with tourists  and I'm sure it's listed in many guidebooks as a must-see.

  1. Wow, chocolate lipstick! My daughter ordered hot chocolate in the airport in Frankfurt, and it was a cup of hot milk and a little pot a chocolate syrup (melted chocolate) that she had to stir in. I helped her taste the chocolate. :) Great food for anywhere, but especially for an airport.

  2. Sounds good Jeannette! I forgot to mention that I had a Belgian waffle topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce in Bruges. It was incredibly tasty! I had Prince of Wales tea with it. :)

  3. Yum! Belgian waffles with Belgian chocolate.... My husband loves Belgian waffles. I have never had Prince of Wales tea.

I love all of your pictures!

  4. That was the best Belgian waffle - I'm sure I'll never have one that good again! I hadn't seen Prince of Wales tea before either. It's a Twinings of London brand but maybe it's not sold here.

Glad you like the pictures! Jackson took most of them. :)

  5. This is the first time I am commenting on your blog. It's a trial one.

  6. I'll look for the tea. In Norway we drank a tea called Four Fruits and they sell it here under a name like Mixed Berries. I'm always looking for new teas. Jackson took some great shots!

  7. We had tea in Amsterdam called Mixed Berries. It wasn't my favorite. Actually, my favorite tea comes from Seattle - Market Spice Tea (the original cinnamon-orange flavor). I love it! The first time I got it was at the Pike Place Market but now I buy it at Bartells for much less.

  8. I just tried Tazo Teas Organic Chai today. It is very good; I didn't have to add sugar. :)

  9. Oh, I used to drink Tazo Chai tea too! Somehow I got out of the habit but it is a good one! I drink Good Earth tea also and yesterday we bought Bigelow Organic Ceylon which tastes like tea we had in London.

Actually, Jackson really liked the tea we drank in Bath. I'm going to write more about Bath (it was our first stop). It's a really nice little tourist town near London.

  11. I look forward to your posts about Bath. I love Jane Austen and Bath plays an important part in her stories! I hope to see Bath and Lyme someday, after I visit Scotland.

I'm still looking for Prince of Wales tea. I developed an allergy to chamomile, so I don't drink many herbal blends anymore. I like Roobois teas. I'll try the Ceylon, too!

  12. I'm not a tea drinker, it seems. Harv and I just love the coffee at the Village Inn in Iowa City so we go there for the coffee and of course the food is wonderful. I love their blueberry blintz and also eggs benedict. I would love the Belgian chocolate and ,Joy, I have a Belgian waffle maker with a good recipe.

  13. I have a waffle maker that makes 4 heart shaped waffles but I haven't used it in ages. I bought a pancake/waffle mix recently from Trader Joe's. I made pancakes with it so far. I'd love a good waffle recipe!

  14. I love waffles. I just had some with bananas and pecans this weekend at a local restaurant. Yum! I like them better than pancakes.

  15. I prefer waffles to pancakes too, but I bought some frozen chocolate chip pancakes recently and enjoyed them. Yes, I'm a chocaholic!
