London photos

I added a few new pictures taken in London.  Just thought I'd point out that the Millennium Bridge was used in the filming of one of the Harry Potter movies - I think it was the most recent one but I'm not sure.  Jackson recognized it right away.  We walked across the Bridge to get to the Tate Modern museum where we spent quite a bit of time.  St. Paul's Cathedral was the setting for Princess Diana's fairy-tale wedding to Prince Charles in 1981.  We went inside but didn't take the tour.  I have more photos taken outside of the church, it's huge!

  1. Forgot to mention that we had perfect weather in London. For mid May it was very warm and sunny. We even bought sunscreen!

It rained in Paris and was cooler but we enjoyed being there anyway and had umbrellas. :)

  2. Hi Joy! How do I see the new photos? Am I missing some important step? I only see St. Paul's at the top. (And the few on the right side, too.)

  3. Jeannette, I haven't added more photos of St. Paul's yet. I need to spend more time on this blog! I did add some gorgeous flowers from Amsterdam above the picture of the Eiffel Tower. Did you notice that?

  4. I just now saw the picture of the Millennium Bridge. That photo wasn't visible when I read the post earlier. The flower pictures are beautiful.

You have some great shots from Europe. How long were you there?

  6. We were in Europe from May 18 to June 4. Our 30th anniversary was May 26th and I had always wanted to see London and Paris. Jackson wanted to go to Amsterdam and I heard great things about Bruges. We got the idea to go to Bath from Rick Steves' London book (he had listed a few recommended trips close to London). We went to Germany in 2001 and enjoyed that as well. These days they don't allow smoking in restaurants which would have been great in Germany. The smoke was so thick in a few restaurants there that we had to leave.

Jeannette, I think your husband would enjoy Paris!

  7. He's a German -- he won't go to France, just on principle! ;)

I love the Chihuly glass sculpture (is that a chandelier?) in the Victoria & Albert museum! How cool is that?

We were in London 11 years ago, but only for a few days. We visited Ireland in 2008. I would love to visit Bath or the Lakes District.

Yes, no-smoking in German restaurants is wonderful! It makes it so much more pleasant to visit! :)

  8. I think the Chihuly website calls it a chandelier. It looked like they just have lights shining it at it. We went to the museum in the evening and the lobby was pretty dark. I loved London and hope we get to go there again someday!
